Bold patterns and colors: Retro styling brings together bold patterns and colors into your home. If you enjoy large patterns, try using them on your walls with wallpaper, paint or murals. For the same affect throughout your furniture, consider using bold fabrics and coordinating textiles such as rugs, and window treatments. Try and keep the bold patterns and colors within a few colors for the palette. Too many colors will make your room look scattered, and uninviting.
No matter how many ways you use your space or how many times each year you change out your tchotchkes, you can find living room ideas in the collection of inspiration pieces we’ve gathered and shared below. From ultra-formal to ultra-comfortable, your living room can become the blank slate upon which you introduce your home’s design. As with all the uniquely designed rooms in your home, you’ll want to have a focal point for your living room.
Rummage around for old furniture with clean lines, mid-century legs, bold graphic fabrics, and most importantly think outside of the box. For example: Maybe you fumble upon four peg legs that scream the 1950’s at a local flea market; take these legs home and use them on a current piece you already own. Voila! You now have your very own mid-century design. Your living room will become the wonderfully welcoming space you want it to be.
